MAXAM Foundation and Down Madrid today annonced the call for entries for the 3rd MAXAM Painting Competition for people with intelectual disabilities. Any artists with intelectual disabilities who wish to enter the competition may do so from tomorrow, 1 November, through 22 February 2019.

The central theme of all Works submitted must be a free interpretation of "Vanitas," by Alfonso Albacete, a painting recently inlcuded in MAXAM Foundation's art collection, which furthermore, will provide the image for MAXAM's 2019 Calendar, this painting will be shown over the next few weeks at Sala Pardo Bazán, Edificio la España Moderna, in the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid.

All winners and finalists will be exhibited in a public display to take place in Madrid in March 2019.

"The competition aims to provide an opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities, showcasing their sensibilities and capabilities. People who have a high creative potential, which is finally being recognized worldwide both for their original perception and the freshness and spontaneity of their works," explains Fernanda Cardama,Patron of the MAXAM Foundation and the company’s Global Head of People & Resources.

This type of initiative allows artists with intellectual disabilites to reassert the artistic value of their creations. In Spain, these artists are gradually gaining social recognition, as shown by their participation in prestigious exhbitions such as the Salón de Otoño, organized annually by the Spanish Assocation of Painters and Sculptors.

Madrid Down Syndrome Foundation (Down Madrid) is a non-profit organization whose mission isto achieve the full social inclusion of people with Down síndrome and other intellectual disabilities. The work that Down Madrid has been doing for more tan 25 years would not have been posible without the collaboration of the people and entities that support its work.
