In Ghana since 1994, and currently employing  over 140 workers in the West African country. MAXAM also collaborates with this institution in the education& practical training of mining engineering students.

The Chairman & CEO of MAXAM, José F. Sánchez-Junco, will donate a set of video conferencing equipment to the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa.

The donation of the video conferencing equipment to the University reflects MAXAM’s corporate social responsibility as a Mining Service Company in Ghana. MAXAM has previously made donations to a number of different institutions in a wide variety of fields, including Tarkwa Government Hospital.

MAXAM in Ghana
MAXAM has been present in Ghana since the early 1990’s. In 1994 MAXAM Ghana Limited was established as the local subsidiary of MAXAM Civil Explosives in this key country for the mining industry.

MAXAM runs a state-of-the-art facility at Iduapriem to provide products for the AngloGold Ashanti Mine in Tarkwa. Since its beginning, MAXAM has invested more than 14 million USD in Ghana.. From Ghana, products are supplied to nine mines, not only within the country, but also to the rest of West Africa.

Founded with only 12 workers in 1994, MAXAM Ghana currently employs over 140 highly skilled professionals. In 2011 MAXAM Ghana sales reached 30.7 million USD.

In the wider Africa Continent, MAXAM has a number of subsidiaries in other mining countries, including South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Mali, Mauritius, Nigeria, Niger, Togo, Ethiopia, Angola, Cameroon and Morocco.

José F. Sánchez-Junco, Chairman & CEO of MAXAM, explained during the event that “Ghana is one of the most important countries in which we operate, and one of the areas with the brightest future. It is for that reason that we invest in the development of human resources and support training institutions as this University of Mines and Technology.”

YESS Program (Young Engineers & Scholarship Students)
For over a decade now, MAXAM has run an Educational Program known as the Young Engineers & Scholarship Students Program (YESS Program). The YESS Program is structured to foster the university education of future MAXAM professionals. It has trained more than 90 junior engineers who have become International Operations Engineers at MAXAM operations worldwide.

Last year the University of Mines and Technology joined the YESS Program, and during this first year three Ghanaian mining engineers have been sponsored by MAXAM; this support will continue throughout the remainder of their academic period, and later these students will train at MAXAM.
