Sustainability - Environment - Energy and climate change

Energy is one of the key factors for the sustainable development of our society. The efficient management of energy sources and energy saving are 2 of the greatest challenges to curb negative impacts on climate change under the Kyoto Protocol, without prejudice to the legitimate economic development in any part of the globe.

MAXAM contributes in a way that is particularly relevant to the sustainable development of our society, providing comprehensive solutions and high energetic products for mining, construction, civil works and other industrial sectors. The efficient use of our solutions and products represent value creation to our customers, and the improvement of the environmental performance of the activities carried out.

Among the initiatives that MAXAM is incorporating in its plants, are the definition of performance indicators for energy use and consumption, and objectives to achieve energy savings.

These objectives include changes to fuels with lower greenhouse emissions (GHG), or the analysis of distribution networks of electricity for their optimization. Also, in those plants that generate greenhouse gases, are being necessary upgrades to minimize progressively these emissions (e.g., catalytic reduction of N2O).

Specifically, MAXAM plants affected by the European directives relate to energy efficiency (EU/27/2012) and carbon emission trading system (2009/29/EU), are certified according to ISO 14001 and 50001 standards.
